The Research Analyst is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family.

In this role, you’re expected to:

  • The VP level Analyst will be based in Mumbai and will work closely with a top-rated London based team covering European and US Major Pharmaceuticals.

  • The Analyst’s main responsibility will be to support the team with coverage of existing companies and also help with initiations and banking work over next 12-18 months.

  • The Analyst will be expected initially to help support the team's research by taking ownership of company and industry models, help maintain industry databases including prescription trends and pricing as well as contribute to drafting research reports. The team is widely known for its in-depth industry/thematic work and the Analyst would be expected to increase understanding of industry trends and contribute to the team's thematic as well as company-specific content.

  • Track company events and earnings.

  • Distill research into an investable thesis and write report/note; Make Investment Recommendations.

  • Market ideas to internal constituents and clients via phone calls and client marketing trips; Interact with Institutional Clients.

  • Arrange company visits and regular management contact for investing clients and due diligence purposes; Help facilitate direct corporate access for investors.

  • Attend industry conferences and speak to industry contacts; Establish yourself as an expert.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • 10-14 years relevant experience. Equity research experience in Pharma, Healthcare or MedTech is preferred. 

  • Scientific/medical background is an advantage, but not a pre-requisite if compensated by adequate work experience.

  • Strong financial modeling skills, including full company modelling experience.

  • Advanced Excel skills, experienced in Word & PowerPoint.

  • Competent in using online search engines, statistical websites and medical society websites for market research purposes.

  • CFA/MBA an advantage to pure on-the-job work experience.

  • Self-starter; used to working in a team environment and who has the ambition to progress his/her career within equity research

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
